Top 5 Beaches in Croatia

Top 5 Beaches in Croatia

With 4000 km of coastline and hundreds of alluring islands, Croatia is an ideal destination for everyone whose definition of a perfect trip includes relaxing by the sea. Although it’s a quite difficult choice, we bring you our list of the five most beautiful Croatian beaches:

Zlatni rat - probably the most famous beach in Croatia and a characteristic symbol of the Adriatic coast, located in the town of Bol on the southern side of the island of Brač. This beautiful beach is made of small pebbles brought by the wind from the nearby Vidova Gora - the highest peak of the Adriatic islands. As the wind blows and currents change, the beach changes its direction and shape, which makes it a unique natural phenomenon. Besides from being one of the most popular Croatian beaches, Zlatni rat is also the country's top windsurfing destination.

Stiniva – another beautiful and photogenic Croatian beach is Stiniva on the island of Vis. Placed in a quiet bay, surrounded by rocks, the beach owes its unique appearance to the fact that it was created during the Ice Age when the sea level was 120 meters lower than today! If you want to visit this hidden oasis of warm and crystal-clear sea, be prepared to hike the straiten paths through the steep rocks or hire a taxi boat, which is one of the few water vehicles small enough to pass through the narrow passage between the rocks.

Pasjača - this beautiful beach is located in Konavle - the southernmost Croatian region, known for its great wines and olive oil produced on small family farms. The beach is located behind cliffs, and it can only be reached by going down a long, steep staircase cut into the rock. The rock is 250 m above sea level, so descent and climbing it is a small adventure. Just make sure you bring enough water and, once you spread your beach towel, enjoy the peace and the stunning view of the horizon.

Sakarun –the most popular beach on the island of Dugi Otok is an ideal summer oasis for fans of sandy beaches. White sand, combined with the clear blue sea and pine trees around, attracts swimmers throughout the bathing season, so be prepared for a full beach. And if you decide to visit Sakarun, don't miss out on other natural beauties of Dugi Otok, such as Telašćica Nature Park.

Nugal – If you are looking for a beach that is not so crowded and exposed to the views, then this gem on the Makarska Riviera is the right swimming spot for you. You can reach this seaside paradise surrounded by cliffs and pine trees by boat or by a 40-minute descent through the lush forest of Osejava Park.
